David Larson, MS

Professional Counselor Associate, EMDR Therapist

ABOUT

David has completed his 2nd Master’s Degree in Counseling Health and Wellness at Grand Canyon University. And his first was in Clinical Counseling also at Grand Canyon University. He has decades of life experience. He ran a business and raised a family. In his 40’s he started running community groups and went back to school. He has been integrating his ample life experience and clinical knowledge in the 2nd half of his life. And this is a large part of his offering as a clinical counselor.

David often sees clients who look completely different than him. He loves working with people all along the social spectrum. And is very excited to see the soul of the person in front of him and focusing on empowerment of the individual sitting in front of him.

David has a lot of experience working with sexual addiction with men, processing the shame in how they were getting their needs met, and how to get needs met in relationships, with worthiness and conviction.

Spiritual gifts that David brings into the therapy room, include teaching that is grounded in wisdom, inclusivity, and how the brain works. His skill in the business world was to dig down and identify things that were broken and fix them. He now does the same process as an “engineer of the brain, finding what needs more connection and fixing it relationally.

David was born and raised in Montana but has worked and traveled the world and experienced many different cultures and peoples. His hobbies are just about anything that is tangible and workable with his hands or any experience in the great outdoors.

In his own words, “The Genesis of change at the soul level is deeply embedded in the community, where communication and collaboration is critical. This process is an evolution in which one lives new lifestyle. My core belief is in the uniqueness of individuals and at the same time a shared community experience.”

David has two sons in their mid to late 20s, is presently married to his second wife after losing his first wife of over 25 years to cancer. David says, “Family is critical to me, having raised my children with my first wife and now being a partner with my children and wife in the second phase of my life.”

The greatest accomplishments David feels he’s been able to witness our clients who’ve transformed their lives from one of not feeling capable to a place where they not only feel capable but they feel empowered in a true sense of being the genesis of change in their lives for the better meant of them selves and those around them.

The most important aspect of EMDR for this therapist is how traumatic, negative cognition can be completely removed from the imagery of a client which leaves a powerful, positive cognition within held memory space that offers positive feedback rather than negative feedback to the clients working memory.

David’s counseling style is grounded in the individualistic experience of growing a personal, fulfilled and powerful sense of one’s own self-worth which makes an individual more competent in being a unique and positive force in the community.
