Our Mission
A Message from Kimberly:
I started Mirror Pond Counseling in 2015 as an Associate, so I know the challenges Professional Counseling Associates are facing; finding clients and getting your 1,900 hours approved by the Board, finding your unique specialization, developing your therapist self, boundaries and holding a strong container, attracting the clientele you are meant to see, making strategic decisions in how you invest in advancing your career, getting paid a reasonable rate and on time, insurance credentialing, finding supportive and effective supervision, finding time for adequate self care and spending time with your family as you aim to earn your license. And we know, that even for counselors, life still happens.
I had amazing supervisors who I am still in touch with today. I’ve worked with wonderful EMDR consultants. I am lucky to have had business mentors who taught me a lot about how to remain profitable and always stay networking. I love sharing what I’ve been given.
After I had a baby in 2020 I decided to expand into a group practice. My first employee was amazing, we currently send each other Marco Polos and hilarious therapist cameos over Instagram. I am forever grateful for the conversations we had around boundaries and how we encouraged one another to stand in our unique power, within our perspective roles as employer and employee. I am now contracting with her as a second supervisor for our team who provides a uniquely held space for supervision, to support our Associates. I believe our employee retention is due to prioritizing a relational business model and investing in culture and communication.
Our team since 2020 has been the greatest workplace dynamics I’ve experienced in the last 15 years in this industry. I intentionally try to invest in a healthy company culture. I couldn’t quite predict how it would work out when I set out to do it. It took contemplation and challenging conversations to balance our workplace roles while getting to know team members as people outside of their counselor self we are often trained to keep out in front.
By then end of 2024, I will have helped 7 clinicians earn their license! Each of them have a special place in my heart and have impacted our business in a unique way. I deeply value that our team members have mutual respect toward me that boldly surpasses the traditional boss/employee relationship. I continue to cultivate and build upon a healthy and supportive company culture where we can have productive supervision meetings, without feeling fearful of not fulfilling some daunting version of what a counselor should be.
In summary, I’ve learned the last few years that a significant aspect of our business is orienting Associates early in their career, and increasing their confidence and value as a counselor, a large majority in deepening and working on maintaining our professional relationships. With a strong platform like this, Associates are set up for success, which increases capacity to serve clients to a high standard of care.

“Upon meeting Kimberly from Mirror Pond Counseling, I immediately felt at ease. Her professionalism and personality combine to create the kind of reassuring character that Associates hope for in a supervisor. She is determined to support her clinicians in developing into the type of counselors they each want to be. I felt gently challenged all year to continue to hone the ideal client for myself, and I felt supported in the process of deepening this inquiry. She models this at every level of her business, which she holds with a sacred heartfulness that has become a magnet for clients who are seeking psycho-spiritual healing.
For the first time in my counseling career I was able to experience the independence of a private-practice-like setting, within a group practice filled with inspiring colleagues. The flexibility of scheduling allowed me to hold a second job, despite also knowing that if I wanted more hours they could certainly be negotiated. Working downtown at such a prime location provided me the experience of being embedded into the heart of the community, which was a blessing both for myself and my clients.
I appreciated Kimberly’s insightful supervisory framework, I also appreciate how she kept the power differential understated and largely irrelevant. This afforded me the luxury of feeling like a fully-licensed therapist without the credential; a major victory against the imposter syndrome which has held me back in the past.
I have not before had a manager/supervisor that I felt so comfortable being honest with at every step of my journey. As a perpetual people pleaser, this invitation for honesty is something I hope to model future supervisory relationships on.
I also have the privilege of leaving Mirror Pond to launch into my post-licensure chapter of my career with incredible training experience to elevate my potential. Thanks to Kimberly’s professional development support, I have wonderful network of professionals to stay in touch with, as well as my basic EMDR training completed.
In reflection of this past year leading up to my licensure, I truly could not have landed at a better practice than Mirror Pond Counseling. I am so grateful for this experience, and the relationships I’ve built.”
